I’ve been all about cozy projects this winter and this may be the coziest yet!
This my second version of this cardigan/jacket. I made the pattern (and the first version) back in November. It needed a few tweaks that I’ll get into!
I had problems with collar last time. The seam connecting collar to bodice was too thick and it caused the collar to flop most unpleasantly. So I drafted a one-piece facing for the front and the collar to reduce the bulk of that seam.
First I sewed the regular collar piece to the neckline of the jacket, then I attached the facing to the Center Fronts and along thrThe facing was attached to the bodice (rights sides together). I used pinking shears to finish the inner edge, turned it in 1/2″, and hand-stitched it in place. It turned out really nice!

I didn’t top-stitch the collar, I only under-stitched. Next time, I would top-stitch because it created a conundrum! I couldn’t stitch all the way to the corners of the collar. To fix this, I did top-stitch the corners, which isn’t noticeable from the right side because it blends into the under-stitching.
When I made this jacket the first time, I accidentally sewed the cuffs like a shirt sleeve with a placket. At the time I decided to just roll with it and added a placket with snap buttons.

The sleeve is finished the way I originally intended: with a cuff and three pleats. I placed the pleats close to the sleeve’s side seam pointed toward the back. It creates space for my elbows and has a nice, subtle curve.
I added big pockets, naturally! I have a terrible habit of making pockets too small, so I made these much bigger than I usually would. As a result, they’re actually a decent size!
The fabric is a super cozy flannel cotton. It’s half yellow thread and half green. It feels about medium weight and it’s super soft.

I love this jacket! It’s cozy, soft and stylish (if I do say so myself). The sleeves turned out great, just the length I like with plenty of room for movement. And I’m happy with how the facing turned out! One of my co-workers said I looked like a pixie in it. I wasn’t mad!
