Scoop Neck Garnet Top

Spring is here which means it’s prime time for one of my fave fabrics – cotton lawn! Lawn is crisp and light and easy to work with.

I found this airy lawn with teensy polka dots and decided on a top from my Garnet pattern.

Garnet is a pull-over blouse with bust darts and a back yoke. It originally has a v-neck but I decided to try it out as a scoop neck!

To make the modification, I used a French Curve ruler. First, I squared a line at the center front where I wanted the new neckline to be. I did this at the inner shoulder, too. Then I lined up the curved ruler so it was touching the guidelines and had a shape I liked.

I had to make a new front neckline facing to match, but that was pretty quick. Here’s a guide to how I make facings!

The other mod I made to this pattern was eliminating the high-lo hem. I kept the split hem, but added length to the front so it matches the back. I like it better this way -the high-low line gaped in a strange way.

I like how the scoop turned out, but I don’t think I’ll change the master pattern. It’s nice to have different variations!
