So I wore my old pj pants down until they got a hole. Not just a small, patchable hole, either. The entire back was shredded and threadbare. I reckon I really loved them!
As winter is here, I bought some flannel so I could be extra cozy in my new pjs.
I used the Pants #1 pattern from 100 Acts of Sewing, lengthened a few inches. I also added side seam pockets. They make the pants look a little bulky, but pj pockets are a necessity in my book!
Pants No.1 is a simple, good pattern. They’re very comfy and roomy. Also quick and easy to make!
Because of the in-seam pockets, I finished the seams with a zig-zag stitch. I topstitch the crotch seam down so it doesn’t pop up and bother me while I’m walking around.
I always seem to cut the elastic too big, so after trying them on I went back and took the elastic in another inch. Don’t forget that the elastic stretches a bit when you pull it through the waistband!
Speaking of the elastic, I always sew the casing first, then feed the elastic through using a safety pin. To me it’s less stress, less worrying about accidentally sewing the elastic down. But I admit, distributing the gathers evenly along the elastic is a pain, too!
The top is my own pattern, the Puff sweater. I’ve made quite a few! Puff is oversized, with voluminous sleeves which end in a fitted cuff. It’s long enough to technically be a mini dress, but I’m not so bold.
For this particular sweater, I used a fleece-lined, medium weight sweater knit. It’s soft, thick, and oh so cozy!! I love slipping into it when I come home.
Both of these fabrics are so delightful, I think these are my favorite pajamas ever. I bought another color way of the flannel to make a second pair of pants. I’m hoping this will make them last longer, as I can switch them out and won’t have to wash them as much.
