Serendipity is the phenomenon of stumbling upon a treasure you weren’t looking for. And I stumbled upon this dress design; it surprised me in a wonderful way.
It started with this beautiful double-gauze. One side is stripey, the other has a window pane pattern. I felt inspired to make a reversible dress.

At first I just planned to use my Garnet dress pattern, until I remembered the bust dart!
I set about removing the bust dart by slashing the bottom bust dart leg and making another slash line from the hem to the bust point. As I rotated the bodice, I noticed it added alot more ease than I expected. This isn’t normally my kind of dress, but it looked really cool!
So I went with it! I cut the dress and sewed it up. The armholes were too low and wide, so I took the dress in a bit. I adapted the armscye on the paper pattern to match.
The neckline and armholes are finished with bias tape. I actually split the double gauze into a single layer because the two layers were rather bulky.

I finished the side seams with a flat- felled seam. It was my first time doing that and with the double- gauze it was tricky! I had to tuck the fold under as I was sewing because it just wouldn’t stay in place.
I also made a fabric belt to finish the look!

I’m really thrilled with how this turned out! I want to make a hundred more!
