Puff Sweater – Final Form

I knuckled down and worked on this pattern quite a bit a couple weekends ago. Puff was drafted early in 2019 – I made one right away, wore it constantly, but didn’t make another until November!

After making the second one, I jotted down some notes for next time. I always have a sewing/project notebook handy. It’s my lifeline. I do all my project planning, long-term project lists, and keep track of any changes or ideas that appear along the way in the notebook.

The earlier versions pulled to the back just slightly. So, so slightly but I could feel it. I laid the bodice pieces over each other and discovered they weren’t trued! I fixed it by drawing a new side seam for the front and back, which I double checked.

The other change I made is narrowing the sleeve cuff and the hem band. I kept the inner edge (the one you attach to the bodice or sleeve) the same but tapered the outer edge. It helps bring out the style of this design as it’s meant to be “bloused” just a little.

Last, but oh-so-not-least, I added seam allowances to the paper pattern! It’s something I save until I’m confident the pattern won’t go through any more alterations. When you hack or modify a pattern, you have to remove the SA (well, you should) to ensure accuracy. In the past, I’ve just drawn the SA on the fabric while cutting. Or I cut with my right hand, and aim at a ruler I’m holding with my left. I don’t recommend that technique!

It’s super comfy and big. The bust is still semi-fitted, though, so I don’t get lost in it. Although the armscye is dropped, I still set the sleeve in the round. I used to hate setting sleeves this way, but now it’s the only way I do it. Setting a sleeve flat just doesn’t net the same result.

There are no seam finishes to discuss, this Telio Bamboo French Terry doesn’t fray. I bought this 4 years ago from fabric.com and made a sweater for my Dad. I had some 2 yards of this 60″ fabric left in my remnants bin, just waiting to become my new fave sweater. Using it up feels really good!

Considering I’m a ‘ginger’, I don’t have alot of green in my closet! Teal – yes, in abundance, but not a proper green!

I love this sweater – it feels like I’m actually wearing something designer except… I’m the designer!
