My first foray with the Ondée sweater!
The Ondée, a cute cropped sweater with two neckline and sleeve options, is one of the few Deer and Doe patterns I haven’t tried, despite having it in my pattern library. Then I stumbled upon a fancy sweater knit at my local shop that I knew would be perfect; I made the long sleeves and scoop neck version.

Ondée requires 30% stretch and has 3 inches negative ease in the waist. My fabric has just barely 30% stretch, so I was concerned it would be too tight with that negative ease. I decided to grade the sweater from a size 38 bust to a size 40 waist, reducing the negative ease to 1 inch. I’m very happy I made this adjustment. If I hadn’t I think the sweater would ride up.
I also lengthened the bodice by .5″ and the bottom waistband by 1″, for 1.5″ in total. It would have been way too short on me if I hadn’t. With the adjustment, it’s perfect to pair my high-waist skirts. However, when worn with my high-waist Safran pants, there’s a very small midriff gap which I might sport sometime but only outside of work.

This fabric is really nice! It’s soft, warm and wearing this sweater makes me feel posh and chic. Just fab! Plus it’s 60″ wide, so I only had to use 1 yard.
While I was planning this, I envisioned the stripes as horizontal. When I lay the fabric out to cut it, I realized they would have to be vertical for the stretch to work. I actually love the look of the vertical stripes. They elevate this little sweater.
