The fabric is an Andover Mariner Cloth that I had stashed for a long time. As much as I adored it, I had no idea how to use it! It has a medium body with thick white threads running through it.
After making several versions of my Garnet top in different fabrics, I realized it would be suitable for my marooned mariner fabric.
I didn’t have enough fabric for the long puff sleeves, so I made a short sleeved tunic instead!
I lengthened the pattern by 3″ along a line between the waist and the tabs for the split hem. Then I blended the side seam and restored its gentle curve. The sleeves were super easy to shorten; I kept the extra width and cut at 3″ below the armscye.

Finally, I made a bias tape waist tie and belt loops. I made the loops by making a very long tube. Because it was so long, I turned it through a gap in the middle. I cut the belt loops from the same tube and pinked the edges. Then I finished the ties by knotting them at the ends.

All of the seams are French seams and the neckline facing is hand stitched in place.

I’m very happy with this one! The lovely fabric finally gets to see the light of day and I have a cute tunic! I think I will be making more tunic length versions in the future.
