I made a spooky Deer & Doe Melilot shirt!
Melilot is one of my go-to patterns. It’s a great casual button-down shirt with long or short sleeves. I’ve made about 6 of them, with 5 remaining as wardrobe workhorses. This time, I made View A, the long-sleeved version.
Fabric
This fabric is very special. It’s a print based off the movie Evil Dead 2 made by Twisted Needle Textiles. They design fabric patterns and you can pre-order them in 11 different fabric types. For this project, I got the plain cotton. It’s crisp, soft and just under quilting weight. In other words, perfect for a shirt!
Listen, this fabric won’t be everyone’s favorite. But Evil Dead 2 is my absolute favorite movie and I jumped at the chance to make some ED2 clothing. Evil Dead 2 is a campy 80s horror movie, wherein some college students unwittingly unleash an ancient evil that claims them one by one. It’s gruesome but also funny and ridiculous, making it a cult classic.
Adjustments
I sewed a size 38, with a couple adjustments: I lengthened the sleeve by 3/4″ and squared the edges of the collar and shirt cuffs. I also sewed the normal placket instead of the hidden one and omitted the pocket.
All of the seams are French seams. They’re just so neat, I use French seams whenever I can. This shirt also has my best sleeve placket to date!

Thoughts on the Pattern
This pattern sews up rather quickly once you get the hang of the sleeve placket and collar assembly. I made this over a couple of evenings. It’s pretty beginner friendly, too. At this point, my pattern pieces are well worn from use and I still have another planned! I highly recommend this one.

This shirt is great! The fabric is crisp with the right amount of drape and it fits well. Adding another Melilot to the closet…groovy.
