I made a new full circle skirt with some special fabric!
Circle skirts are my favorite! I love their drape, silhouette, and subtle fullness. While a full circle skirt is Queen for me, it can be hard to find fabric wide enough to accommodate one without modifying it.
I drafted this skirt using the Circle Skirt Calculator from Mood. Once I had my waist measurement, I used a pen and string to mark the curved waistline. I cut the full circle into a front (cut on fold) and back (with Center Back seam for the zipper).
Thankfully, this cool hemp fabric is 60″ wide and destined to become a full circle skirt! It’s an organic hemp/cotton, deadstock from a local designer. The pattern is super cool and I love the colors. It’s been in my stash for a while because I love it too much and was hesitant to use it.
I added side-seam pockets (of course) and belt loops. It closes with an invisible zipper. There’s about 1.5″ of ease in the waist.
The seams are all finished with bias binding, apart from the pockets and the Center Back along the zipper. I prefer using bias binding on skirt seams because it’s so neat and tidy. It’s also a great way to add a secret pop of color.
I’m thrilled with how this turned out!
