The Big News
I’m so excited, I’ve been shouting it from the mountaintops – Clotho and Frigg is now an official registered LLC! It’s the culmination of so much work and also the beginning of even more. I will be opening my books to new clients for custom sewn linen dresses, flannel jackets, and chaos quilts starting in February. I’ll share more details on how the commissions will work in the coming weeks. Sign up for my email list to get updates every week and first dibs on new stuff!
Scissor Sharpening
I had my scissors sharpened this weekend. My local fabric shop has a sharpener who comes every so often, which is so convenient. I take my Gingher shears and my little thread nippers as often as I can. They seem to need to be sharpened every three or four months when I am sewing every week.
Freshly sharpened scissors are the best! They come back shiny and sharp, cutting like new, with oiled joints so they don’t squeak. Sharpening prolongs the life of your scissors as well – without proper maintenance, small nicks in the blade can become irreparable.
Finding a sharpener isn’t hard, many shops (including Joanne’s) offer sharpening and there are stand-alone sharpeners in most cities. Ask at your smaller fabrics shops, too! They might have an event like the one at Firecracker Fabrics where you can drop your scissors off to be sharpened.
Pittsburgh Frocktails
Last night was the first ever Pittsburgh Frocktails event! A ‘frocktails’ is an event for sewist to socialize while wearing their fanciest projects. I had a great time, saw some old friends, and made new ones. It was so much fun, I left my phone in my bag and I don’t have pics to share yet. There was a fun photo booth, though, so I will have some to share soon!
