11/21/21 Weekly Rally

Splitting more fabric for the reversible dress and fresh chaos!

A Sneaky Hem

The final step in making my reversible dress was the hem! Just like with the neck and armholes, I wanted to hem to match each side of the dress. Which meant more fabric splitting. I separated the layers by cutting the little threads that hold them together. I only had to unpick about an inch from the hem.

Then, I folded and pressed each layer individually, making sure they were the same length. I pinned them together, and sewed about 3/8″ from the edge.

It turned out really well and went very smoothly.

Creating Chaos

I started a new Chaos Quilting project! It’s an 18″ square, which I started to get an idea of how long it would take me to complete a quilt. I plan on offering custom Chaos Quilts next year; knowing how long they take is a crucial part of setting prices.

I’m using a theme of pink and blue and magic for this piece. It feels like I’m actually making an art piece, which is a great feeling. I have a few more empty spots left to fill on the quilt top, then I can begin quilting and binding.

Once it’s ready, I will be offering it for sale – so be sure to join my email list so you don’t miss out!

On a Personal Note

I finally got my car back from the collision repair shop! Our accident was at the end of September, so this has been a long and annoying journey. But she’s back and better than ever!

Our cats are really starting to like their new sister. She loves to cuddle with Furia, especially on my quilt. I wonder if there’s a special energy about it or if they  just like the texture, because they are obsessed. It’s one of the only blankets TeeTee will sit on!

Final Thought

Here’s a look at the completed reversible dress! I am working on a long-form post about all the construction details, thoughts on separating double-woven fabrics, and a bite-sized video demonstrating the fabric separation technique.

This weekend was my photoshoot with @oneormorestories at the Phipps! I am super excited to show you the photos -we had so much fun taking them.

Thanks for stopping by for my weekly rally! What projects are you working on? Let me know in the comments!

May your shears always be sharp and your bobbins full!
