A weekly round-up of sewing projects, sewing pattern progress, trees, and life.
Seren Dress with Sleeves and Buttons!
Last week I altered the Seren dress to add a partial button placket, collar stand, and sleeves. The muslin went well, so I cut into my linen.
It fits really well through the shoulder and sleeve, which was my main worry with changing this pattern.
My collar is a little wide; I plan on lengthening the bodice pieces to close it in a bit for future versions.
The partial button placket extends under the bust. It was surprisingly easy to create – I just used two rectangles of fabric and inserted them like a welt pocket. I will definitely do a tutorial for this soon because it’s such a simple, yet garment-changing hack!
Mending
This vintage coat, which is either fur or faux fur, has been loved by several people judging from the older repairs I found while fixing tears in the lining. It warms my heart to keep it going!
Normally I do repairs by hand, but this lining is hemmed separately from the shell, giving me machine access to the inside. It had several rips in the lining that I sewed up with my machine, which saved me time and reduced the cost to the client.
Psst…I still have a few open spots in my roster for new clients this year!
On a Personal Note...
October is my favorite month. It’s spooky season, the leaves changing are so pretty, plus I get to wear my boots again! My October traditions are making a pumpkin roll from scratch, carving jack-o’-lanterns with Erik, and reading ghost stories.
I’m a little sadder this year, because I will miss my garden and nice, shady trees. But I’m already planning for next year and I’m eyeing some new herbs (rosemary, mugwort, more sage) and moss to welcome.
Maybe even some tea if the conditions are right. I’ve tried growing tea a couple of times without success, but I haven’t given up yet!
Final Thoughts
Here’s a close-up of the button placket, complete with buttonholes. I put the placket together before adding the buttonholes to ensure the placket opening didn’t stretch.
Check back next week to see the cute moon phases buttons I’m adding!
Thanks for stopping by for my weekly rally! What projects are you working on? Let me know in the comments.
May your shears always be sharp and your bobbins full.
